Boring Animals In The World

When it comes to boring animals, sloths are at the top of the list. As cute as they are, they have a low metabolism and sleep up to 20 hours!

And when they’re not snoozing, koalas spend most of their waking hours motionless.

Sometimes, they can literally take minutes to mate. Because of their lack of activity, how long they sleep, and their slow movements, sloths are one of the most boring animals alive.

Pandas

Boring Animals

The giant panda is one of nature’s most beloved creatures because of its beautiful appearance. However, it is one of the most boring animals because it spends most of its time eating and sleeping.

Pandas are a species of animal that eat bamboo; hence, in order to obtain enough nutrients for the day, a panda will need to consume up to 20 kg (44 lb.) of bamboo.

Can you guess how long it will take the panda to eat? Well, all that chewing is pretty tiring, and so often the panda sleeps for about three hours and then gets up to eat some more before taking another three-hour siesta.

How’s that for a boring animal?

Koalas

Boring Animals

Well, if you think a panda is a boring animal, you haven’t met a koala. Talk about a boring animal lifestyle! This animal has a 20-hour sleep capacity!

So, what does an animal do when it’s only awake for 2 hours? Apparently, prioritizing survival is everything!

So as long as the koala is awake, it will feed. Eucalyptus is the main part of koalas. This plant is high in fiber and contains toxins, so between the slow breakdown of the fiber and the processing of the toxins, the koala’s body expends a lot of energy in digestion.

No wonder they sleep so late!

Hippos

Boring Animals

Hippopotamuses are boring animals. First, they’re a bunch of heavy sleepers, piling on top of each other and going 16 to 20 hours on any given day.

They are awake for a few hours, about 5 hours, grazing both on land and in water.

Boring as they are, here’s an interesting tidbit. They can sleep both on land and in water, only coming up every so often to breathe air. They are so lazy that they eat and sleep wherever they are, whether on land or in water.

Lions

Boring Animals In The World

King of the jungle and yet, boring animal. Because they belong to the cat family, just like their domestic counterparts, tigers can sleep up to 20 hours a day.

Because of their habitat, which is quite warm, and feeding habits that require them to hunt, a lot of their energy is expended just by existing.

Sometimes, before a hunt, tigers take a pre-hunt nap that can last up to 24 hours! When they are not sleeping but have already eaten, they will laugh and sometimes spend a few moments in companionship.

Tortoise

Boring Animals In The World

This reptile runs at less than 1 mph. This is said to be due to the weight of its shell. Try to walk a pet turtle.

This thought should classify this reptile in the ‘boring animal’ category. If that’s not working, consider this – when they walk, they mostly stay in the area they graze.

The upside might just be that they outlive most other animals… Perhaps there is too much boredom.

Pythons

Boring Animals In The World

One of nature’s biggest sleepers is this big boring animal. Seeing a python in sleep is like trying to rot a log. It spends 18 hours curled up playing dead!

This species is incredibly slothful and will take advantage of any chance to extend slumber. For example, a python will hunt and squeeze the life out of its prey, then swallow the animal whole! No time to chew!

Once the food is swallowed, the snake will become coiled and will not be heard for a whole week!

If you think it’s slow, try it; The same creature will sleep for a whole week in preparation for shedding its skin! Who knew exfoliation could be so tiring?

Opossums

Boring Animals In The World

Second, on our list of boring animals are opossums. These mammals sleep for 18-20 hours. When an opossum finds a habitat that has plenty of food, they rarely move from that location.

They will literally only move when necessary. The creature moves slowly when not in danger but can run at an astonishing 4 mph (7.4 km/h).

Pygmy Blue Tongue Lizard

This reptile takes the cake for sheer laziness and is therefore the crown for the most boring animal. Let’s count the ways, shall we? First, this lizard spends a lot of time underground but is very slow to dig its home underground, preferring to use abandoned homes like spiders.

Second, it does not hunt. It simply lies with its mouth close to the opening of its home ready to catch insects that pass through. Almost like a bee net without the fragrant sticky nectar.

Will it leave its home to hydrate? not at all! But why should it be, when it can only stick out its tongue and catch the dewdrops as they fall in the night?
